Employing interpreters ensures that we have the best available interpreters ‘on our books’ because they know their rights to receive superannuation, be insured, have PAYG tax withheld, etc., and will not work for businesses that do not provide full benefits or ask them to sub-contract using an ABN. (BGM Amigos Pty Ltd, on commencing ownership of Amigos Translate, obtained a private ruling from the Australian Taxation Office confirming that interpreters are employees and NOT subcontractors. The full ruling can be supplied on request.)
All staff participates in at least four training and development activities each year provided free of charge by Amigos and delivered by AUSIT and/or our in-house NAATI Certified Training Officer(s). Our Training Officer(s) deliver internal training courses on employment/induction, as required and as needs are identified.
We are always working towards assisting Amigos NAATI certified interpreters become members (Full Member, Senior Practitioner or above) of the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT) and encourage and actively promote membership of the Union (Professionals Australia).
